Our last day in Manhattan started with us heading north on the subway again to Central Park. We took a carriage ride around lower Central Park with Sergio the driver (from Ireland) and his horse Thor (I think). It was a beautiful morning and slowing down like that, if only for a few minutes, was welcome. As we were leaving the park area we saw a bunch of TV cameras following someone, President Jimmy Carter, from the CBS studios. BORING, the only celebrity we see in 5 days is from Georgia and is a little bit of a wacky dude nowadays.
After a quick breakfast at a little diner we headed out again. Since we had a few more dollars on the subway pass we headed WAAAY north to Yankee Stadium and the Bronx. Nobody was there but it was interesting to get out of Manhattan a moment and to see such a famous landmark. We headed back to town on the subway and a big, BIG man got on the coach and started preaching. I’m telling you, he was great! He had a big booming voice and sounded (content wise only) just like our pastor, Gary Lamb. He was preaching to believers and going on about several topics but one was interesting, especially as a ‘Stoner’ from our new church. He said Christ would not be going to church today, he’d be out at the shelters, crack houses, subways, etc. looking for the people who needed Him. If I closed my eyes and changed the accent on the speaker I’d swear Gary was in NYC!!!
As the morning wound down we got one final slice of pizza and loaded up the suitcases in a taxi and headed out.
We had a great, GREAT time and look forward to getting back up here often! We told Matt and Heather to make room for us at least once a quarter. They are welcome in Woodstock, Georgia anytime.
