Seeing New York City

Friday we woke up to a beautiful, sunny day. We got on the subway and went all the way down to the City Hall stop and started walking. Our first stop was Century 21, a rather large shopping area right next to the WTC (Ground Zero) site. I got a couple of nice shirts for work for a great price and saw a lot of other items we wanted to buy but have no room to take it all home.

We walked around the WTC site and looked thru the fence at the large hole in the ground... very sobering site indeed. We then walked down to Battery Park and looked at the Statue of Liberty. This being a holiday weekend the lines to the ferry to Ellis Island was super long, we didn't go out to see it up close. After that we hopped on the subway and headed back north to Greenwich Village. After walking around a lot and viewing the awesome area, hustle & bustle and the people we stopped at John's of Bleeker Pizza, it was great!!

We walked some more after lunch (to work off of all of the pizza!!) and went to Chelsea Market and had dessert at the Fat Witch Bakery. Needing to work off that too we walked around the area and ended up back on the Subway heading to the apartment for a break. We then went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, just 3 blocks from the apartment. It is a huge place, don't think we did it justice in just a few hours of course but it was free. IBM'ers get in free since the company is a sponsor. I loved the paintings of the historical US figures, George Washington's crossing the Delaware River painting was huge!

Dinner was at Mustang Grill near the apartment. Great Chicken Nachos, cool atmosphere and we sat next to the window so we could see all the people go by. We came home and crashed, ready for another day of walking.
