Thoughts about New York City

  • I love my wife and her being with me and loving every adventure of the city was such a joy.
  • It is a fast moving place
  • The people are generally nice, respectful and helpful. If you get closer to the richest parts of town that tends to be less true.
  • Traffic is crazy and the drivers are aggressive but smart. Atlanta drivers would have no chance. I’d never try it myself.
  • Walking is the best way to get a feel for the city, subway gets you anywhere and a taxi works great when your legs give out.
  • People on the subway actually give up their seat to women and disabled people.
  • People say ‘excuse me’ when they bump you.
  • Service at restaurants, hotels, bars is great! The people act like they really want you there and care what you think. I’ll miss that once we go out to an Atlanta restaurant.
  • $2,000 a month buys you a 600 square foot apartment.
  • Who needs a car?
  • Starbucks has a place on every corner.
  • You can’t see the city the right way in less than a one year period.
  • Diversity, diversity, diversity. People, lifestyles, dress, languages, buildings, etc.
  • Unbelievable cultural experience that all should try.
  • People speak loudly. Some speak loudly in language that would embarrass a sailor. Some do so with their kids sitting in their lap.
  • Once you see the big hole in the ground at the WTC you will be reminded again of what happened 9-11-2001.
  • Window shopping is actually fun.
  • Walk fast, zig zag like crazy and when no cars are coming cross the street at the intersection despite the color of the light.
  • Would like to live there a year.
  • If you live there you would never leave to leave a 4 block radius, everything you need is there.
  • I finally understand the layout of the city of New York. What does it mean when they say ‘The Bronx’, Brooklyn, Upper East side, etc.
  • Lots of pizza places, all of them smelled great.
  • Lots of pubs.
  • Lots of everything.
  • Central Park is beautiful.
  • Newark airport is terrible.
  • If you live there and ride the subway an i-pod is a must.
