Dust in the Wind

I'm a big fan of 70's songs. I love Skynyrd, The Doobies, Boston, Rush, etc and one of the best songs of the 70's, Dust in the Wind by Kansas. It just played on the classic hits station here in Atlanta and got me to thinking.

That song, while a great song, is really a depressing, mournful song. The third verse lays out clearly what they are saying:
"Now, don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind"
If that is all there is then what am I hear for? Gary spoke last Sunday about Superhero's and living life for something other than ourselves. We can take the Kansas route and wonder what good we are or we take the bull (of life) by the horns and make something of it (besides what comes out of the bull!!).

I like this verse from the Bible, it is simple and lays out a plan for us, the I in the passage being Jesus Christ.

John 10:10
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly."

Now, abundantly is a good description, check this out from Dictionary.com:

a·bun·dant [uh-buhn-duhnt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –adjective
1.present in great quantity; more than adequate; over sufficient: an abundant supply of water.
2.well supplied; abounding: a river abundant in salmon.
3.richly supplied: an abundant land.

It doesn't say that I'll have everything I want, desire or ask for. I am not naive enough to say that since I believe in Christ that I'll have no problems. However, it does say that I may have LIFE!!! I'll take it, life is a great gift, a lot of fun, full of challenges and good times too. I pray I continue to have life and can live it abundantly. I'm sure times of challenge and trials will come but if I believe what I say and what God says, I'll be more than OK.

Live life to the fullest, have fun, serve someone. As Bob Dylan, that great philosopher and spiritual giant says, "You Gotta Serve Somebody" .

Let's go have some fun.
