Doug Giles is a TownHall.com columnist who I enjoy and today's column was dead on the money as far as I'm concerned. Many men have failed to take the leadership roles we are called by God to take. That doesn't mean we are called to be dictators but we are CALLED to be leaders in our family and in our church. When I first started attending my last church I was wondering why Sunday mornings we so 'touchy feely' and I noticed that there were no men in front of the class except for the teacher (Robbie). Another guy who was always there and was a critical piece of the team was Jeromy Moore, who many people will tell you was the first to say "hello" if you were a visitor.
After observing a few weeks, and really feeling like that is where I should be, I decided to go to a planning meeting for an upcoming event. Once I arrived I noticed it was me and 6 women (not ALL bad when you are a single guy) and I was floored. I asked the lady's where were the men and they exploded in animated conversation. It was clear they yearned for the leadership from men but it was sorely missing. Most of guys were scared and/or didn't really want to take a risk and the women were strong willed and refused to let the ministry die.
Right now I've landed (and STAYING) at Ridgestone church , which has been very open and intentional about reaching men, mentioning surveys that show if you reach the man your reach the family. I enjoy seeing the men step up and take on responsibilities, it is refreshing and invigorating.
Long live the warrior, crank up the band and fire up the grills.
