We finally got to go back to church this morning after 2 weeks off. Teresa and I got to work the front door today and hand out programs as people come in. The guys on the sidewalk brought in a gentleman around my age and said 'he is a first timer here'. I took him to the guest table and introduced him to the pastor and some other folks. Being new is tough for most people so I wanted to make sure at least 2-3 people said hello to him without completely overwhelming him.
Working the front door has got to be the best job in the church. You get to say hi to EVERYONE, see them smile back at you, watch the kids WANTING to be there and the men who come really wanting to be there. What a priviledge for Teresa and I. We also get to work the hallway and inside the movie theater but the door is by far the best place to be.
The service was great as always, music rocked, Gary spoke from the heart and the crowd really paid attention and interacted with Gary and Tim as always. It is a refreshing Sunday morning when people enjoy being there and are not afraid to 'shout out' to the stage or bust out laughing at Gary when he cracks us up.
After the service I saw the visitor dude leaving so I stopped him and said 'what did you think'. He smiled and said 'that was unusual'. I smiled too and said it is exactly the kind of place Teresa and I felt we belonged in after many years in a more traditional environment. Rick was his name and he said he had a 15 year old son that was in to music and thought he would love the band. His family is still in Florida at this time, selling their house. He just moved here and saw something about Ridgestone in the back of Around Canton magazine and thought he'd try it out.
I pray Rick comes back, brings his family and finds a home at Ridgestone.
Speaking of unusual, Gary has put together a flyer for the Christmas eve service that shows Santa as you've never really seen him. This is how 'unusual' (as Rick said) Ridgestone is. KEEP IT UP FELLAS!
