Tail of the Dragon

Last Saturday Teresa and I were heading home from the Smoky Mountains and after looking at our map we decided to take NC highway 129 near the National Park. As we got closer the scenery was spectacular but we noticed more and more motorcycles of all kinds. We then entered into a something called the 'Tail of the Dragon' which is a windy road with over 300 turns in 11 miles.

After a mile or so I decided to just go with everyone else on the road, which means "hang on dear"!! My little Mazda has a 5 speed and low profile tires and is super quick. I stayed in my lane to be safe but had a blast. Even though I was being aggressive I was being passed by sport bikes regularly.

That was a real interesting find on our part and once we got home we discovered that the road is really famous among bikers and car clubs.

Here is a couple of Youtube videos from cars on the dragon so you can see a little of what it was like.
