Back in 1978 my parents moved from Memphis, TN to Houston, Texas. Not long after they left me, alone, my senior year in high school, living with a neighbor (yee ha!!!) they mailed me a cassette audio tape of a guy on the TV in Houston named Marvin Zindler. They couldn't believe what they were seeing and wanted me to hear him for myself.
It was the strangest thing I had heard during a serious nightly newscast BUT it continued until just a few weeks ago. I always wondered how Dave Ward (anchor) sat there with a straight face for all those years as Marvin did his 'roach reports' wearing all kinds of funny glasses and his ever changing looks.
Sadly for his family, Marvin passed away this past weekend. I'm sure a lot of people will miss his TV reports and flamboyant life.
