Camping in the Mountains of Georgia

Teresa and I went camping at Ft. Mountain State park this past Friday to Sunday. What a beautiful weekend to go camping with sunny skies, cool temps and beautiful fall leaves all around.

We left Friday around noon and got to the campground and picked out spot #40. It was close to the 'comfort station' so that was nice. The camp sites have water, electricity, campfire pits and a picnic table so this was not really roughing it too much. Other people had giant pop-up campers, little tents, huge motor coaches and small coaches so it was a real variety of housing out there.

We drove into Ellijay, a pretty little town, to search for a Wal-Mart, since we forgot a couple of things (of course) and on the way down the mountain we had our windows down and we heard a jet. We both thought it was a fighter jet so we were looking up to see it and all of a sudden a huge, HUGE, military cargo jet flew over just a few hundred feet off the ground. It was startling to see this thing go by so quickly and so low. We thought is was going to crash because it was so low but it just kept going, we didn't see or hear anything to indicate a problem thankfully.

We hiked several trails around the mountain each day, cooked breakfast/dinner on the Coleman stove and hung out by the fire to stay warm at night. The fire was a little troublesome as we could never get a big, roaring fire like the campsite next to us. Teresa was going all over the place picking up twigs, sticks and small limbs to burn but we could never really get the wood burning with big flames like she wanted. However, we didn't freeze because, as a the true outdoors couple we are, we brought a little heater for the tent. One can only 'rough it' so much you know!!

Now we want a nice pop-up camper and a pick-up truck to haul it around everywhere. We can't wait to go back.
