Teresa and I took a quick drive yesterday to check out the storm damage and I'm stunned. As you drive around the area it is a strange sight, light where there used to be a nice green covering of trees, houses that have been crushed by trees, and the tops of trees snapped clean off across the hills. The edge of the tornado, which was estimated to be a mile wide, was only 1/4 mile away. You see it on TV but in person, it is powerful. Georgia Gov. Barnes came out and declared us a disaster area (mom always said I lived in one during college but now I really do). I do want to give kudo's to Cherokee County, they were out immediately, power was restored quickly, trees moved from roadways and people were getting help as soon as possible. The county was ready.
HERE is a good newscast, all, for the most part, filmed within 1 mile of our house. The first 6 minutes of the video is our community. (I sometimes wonder why everyone they interview on TV has such a deep southern accent? We do live in the suburbs but wow, that is funny sometimes.) During the video they show a clip from a guy who was filming it, that is similar to what it looked like at our house, sideway wind/rain, hail, limbs flying around but thankfully we were just on the perimeter of the tornado. I've got to clean up some big limbs but nothing more.
I've already received a few calls, automated, from contractors wanting to help and all day long trucks, with contractor names on the side, are driving around the subdivision looking at the houses (trolling).
