Alabama 34 - Clemson 10

Wow, Teresa and I went to the Alabama-Clemson game this past Saturday night in the Georgia Dome. How nice it is to go see Bama play in our own town, no 4 hour drive to Tuscaloosa (and back). We had to take MARTA because the traffic downtown was brutal. There was the game, an outdoor concert by the local Christian station, some convention and other items going on. The city has been working on the downtown interstates and they closed many lanes this past long weekend to get a lot done.

We caught the southbound train at the very first station, took a seat among a sea of Crimson (Bama) and Orange (Clemson) shirts, hats, etc. When we stopped at the second station, more people, the third station pretty much filled up the train to standing room only the rest of the 30 minute trip to town. We realized then that coming back on the train would be a real adventure. Once we arrived downtown we got off a station 'early' and walked the rest of the way since we were so early.

We found out seats inside the Georgia Dome and bought our dinner for the evening (hot dogs and pretzels). Once we settled in a guy came by and sat right next to us. Sure enough, it was an old college buddy who was an equipment manager with me at Bama. I've not seen him in 25 years so we caught up a little. I saw another old manager friend, Big C, so we chatted a little too.

The game was great, it was over quickly as Clemson never made any attempt to come back on the Bama team. It was loud in there, but only on the 1/2 of the stadium dressing in Crimson and White. The orange half of the stadium was empty by the middle of the 4th quarter.

After the game we headed to the MARTA station and as expected it was a ZOO!!! The line to get on the train was 20 people deep so we decided to catch a train the opposite way, switch back at the next station and not have to wait for the outbound train. That worked OK but the problem was we had to switch trains to the northbound rail at the next station. So, we got off the train and got back in line 20 deep. We did notice that the last train was generally empty (or less full) than the other cars so we muscled our way to the back of the platform and sure enough, jumped on the first train out!!

We got home around 2:00 pm and were too wired to sleep so we ate pizza and watched some of the game on TIVO. Bama still won it on the recorded version too. ;-)

The next game we will attend is in Athens, GA against the top ranked Georgia team. That is going to be fun!!!
